Which format do you need?
| Format | Use it for |
|---|---|
| SRT (.srt) | The universal choice: YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Premiere, Resolve, VLC, TVs. |
| WebVTT (.vtt) | Websites and HTML5 players, HLS streaming, many course platforms. |
| SBV (.sbv) | YouTube's own simple format; also what YouTube Studio exports. |
| ASS/SSA (.ass) | Styled subtitles for Aegisub, anime fansubs, and FFmpeg burn-in with custom fonts. |
| TXT | Transcripts, articles, translation briefs. |
Frame-rate conversion
A subtitle file made for a 25 fps (PAL) release drifts further out of sync every minute on a 23.976 fps version of the same film, because the whole video runs about 4% slower. Choose the source and target frame rate and every timestamp is scaled by the ratio. If the drift is not a clean frame-rate difference, use the two-point sync on the Subtitle sync page instead.
Questions people ask
Which subtitle formats can I convert?
SubRip (SRT), WebVTT (VTT), YouTube SBV, Advanced SubStation Alpha (ASS/SSA) and plain text, in any direction.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Drop multiple files and each is converted; download them one by one.
Does conversion keep italics?
Basic i, b and u tags are kept between SRT and VTT. ASS override codes are removed because other formats cannot represent them.
