Your video and audio files
Files you open are read by your browser and stay there for editing, playback and burning captions into a video (which is rendered locally). Nothing is uploaded automatically. When you press "Generate subtitles", the audio track of your clip is sent to Vercel AI Gateway, which routes it to a speech recognition model, transcribes it, and returns timed text. Clips are capped at 10 minutes and about 25 MB once encoded. The audio is used only to produce the transcript and is not stored by SubtitleWave or by us afterwards.
Optional AI text tools
Translate, "Fix punctuation", "Shorten fast lines" and "Suggest chapters" send the text of your subtitles (not the audio or video) to our server, which passes it to a language model through Vercel AI Gateway and streams the answer back. We do not save the text. To keep the service free, requests are counted per IP address in memory for a few minutes to stop abuse; that counter is not stored or linked to you.
What is saved in your browser
To protect your work, the subtitle studio saves your current subtitles and your chosen spoken language in your browser's local storage. It stays on this device, is never sent to us, and you can remove it at any time:
